Por Tor

Por Tor

The seventh lunar month is also known as the “Hungry Ghost month” when the veils between the worlds of the living and the dead are at their thinnest, and spirits roam around. The Group organises a Por Tor festival (typically the first Sunday of the seventh lunar month in Taiping, second Friday in Alor Setar, and third Sunday in Kulim) where Buddhist monks are invited to pray for the souls of the departed, followed by a short procession where offerings specific to the individual(s) are then hoisted on a paper boat to be ‘delivered’ to the departed.
